It is just as important to stimulate the muscles in your face as it is to care for your skin if you want to achieve firmer skin with more radiance and a more vibrant appearance.
Under the skin of the face are 24 muscles. These muscles are attached to the skin and soft tissues of the face, allowing us to change our facial expressions – to laugh, look worried, be sad, happy or sad. As we age, we lose muscle mass as the muscles weaken, which is especially noticeable around the jawline.
With Gua Sha massage, a traditional Chinese method, you stimulate the muscles and cell renewal. The improved blood circulation nourishes the cells and contributes to firmer and more toned skin.
Me Anima has developed a quick, effective and simple 6-step Gua Sha massage, which you can easily perform morning and evening. Combined with our facial oils, it gives your face a natural lift and a healthy glow.
Things to consider before you start:
- Work with the Gua Sha crystal at a slight angle.
- Use a gentle enough pressure – it shouldn't hurt.
- Avoid applying pressure directly to the leg areas.
- Always work from the center of the face and out towards the hairline.
- Perform all steps first on the left side and then on the right.
- Repeat each movement 3 to 5 times.
- Moisturize your face and neck with toner before you start.
- Lubricate the skin and pat in a facial oil from Me Anima.
Now you're ready to start your quick fix!
It is completely normal for the skin to become red and slightly inflamed afterwards – this shows that circulation has been activated.
1. THE THROAT
Use the long side of the Gua Sha crystal and hold it at a slight angle.
Gently pull the crystal from the jawbone down towards the collarbone to stimulate lymph flow and improve blood circulation.
2. THE BOILER
Use the long side of the Gua Sha crystal.
Gently stroke from the center of the forehead up towards the hairline, then work down towards the eyebrows to smooth lines and increase circulation.
3. THE EYES
Use the short side of the Gua Sha crystal.
Gently pull under the eyebrows out towards the ear. Repeat the same movement under the eyes, from the inner corner of the eye out towards the temple. Follow the natural shape of the eye.
Note: Be extra careful in this area, the skin around the eyes is sensitive.
4. THE CHEEK
Use the long side of the Gua Sha crystal.
Pull from the bridge of the nose out towards the ear. Work from below the eye and down towards the jawbone to lift and define the facial contour.
5. THE MOUTH
Use the short side of the Gua Sha crystal.
Start at the upper lip, from the cupid's bow, and pull out towards the corner of the mouth. Repeat the same movement from the center of the lower lip out towards the corner of the mouth to give the area a lift.
6. THE JAWLINE
Use the heart-shaped side of the Gua Sha crystal.
Pull from the chin up towards the ear to define the jawline and stimulate lymphatic flow. Finish by gently patting the entire face to allow the skin to absorb the oil and soothe any redness.
